L’exposition Contorsions a été conçue et produite dans le cadre d’une résidence de trois mois à La Tohu, à l’été 2022. Faisant suite à une première expérience au sein des 7 Doigts de la main en février, Onira Lussier poursuit ici sa recherche autour des arts circassiens. Provenant elle-même du milieu des arts vivants, elle construit, par le dessin, des formes organiques dont la technique repose sur une grande sensibilité au corps. Fascinée par la discipline physique (ou corporelle) à laquelle se livrent les athlètes du cirque, l’artiste y voit un parallèle direct avec son travail très minutieux du dessin. De la répétition et de la maîtrise naît la création. Depuis quelques années, sa démarche l’a menée à aborder la trace du dessin de manière sculpturale, formant, par la ligne hachurée, des matrices qui par la suite peuvent être récupérées pour une future composition, à l’aide d’outils numériques.

Pour cette exposition, de façon très spontanée et intuitive, l’artiste a bâti deux séries composant chacune un lexique graphique distinct. Métaphoriquement, elle nous propose, dans un premier temps, un jeu de lignes torsadées qui a mené à la composition de la murale centrale. Plongeant ensuite dans l’observation en direct des athlètes, les formes se sont rapprochées du vivant, du corps en soi.

La Contorsion est ici déclinée par une esthétique de la ligne torsadée, évoquant les outils: la corde et le corps.

The Contorsions exhibition was conceived and produced as part of a three-month residency at La Tohu, in the summer of 2022. Following a first experience within the 7 Doigts de la main in February, Onira Lussier continues here her research around the circus arts. Coming herself from the world of the living arts, she builds, through drawing, organic forms whose technique is based on a great sensitivity to the body. Fascinated by the physical (or bodily) discipline in which circus athletes indulge, the artist sees a direct parallel with her very meticulous work of drawing. From repetition and mastery comes creation. In recent years, her approach has led her to approach the trace of the drawing in a sculptural way, forming, through the hatched line, matrices which can then be recovered for a future composition, using digital tools.

For this exhibition, in a very spontaneous and intuitive way, the artist has built two series, each comprising a distinct graphic lexicon. Metaphorically, she initially offers us a play of twisted lines that led to the composition of the central mural. Then plunging into the live observation of the athletes, the shapes became closer to the living, to the body itself.

The Contortion is declined here by an aesthetic of the twisted line, evoking the tools: the rope and the body.
